Akwesasne Mohawk Police Seize Guns, Drugs & Cash in Kana:takon
The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service conducted a search warrant execution as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation on April 5, 2019 at approximately 7:00 PM at a residence in Kana:takon. The investigation is ongoing; however, one person has been formally charged in Valleyfield Provincial Court while a second person is scheduled to appear at a later date.
Andrew Mitchell Jr., 38, has been formally charged for the following offences:
- Possession of a scheduled 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking cocaine
- Careless storage of a firearm
- Unlawful possession of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm knowing that the serial number has been altered or removed
- Two counts of breaching a probation order
An extensive search of a residence on Sweetgrass Lane resulted in the seizure of cocaine, pills, marihuana, packaging materials, 2 handguns, 6 rifles, ammunition, 3 body armor vests, and approximately $16,000 in currency.
According to Chief of Police Shawn Dulude, “The AMPS would like to assure that the community is aware that any information provided to police in criminal matters will be investigated thoroughly. Community safety is of the utmost importance and it is my intention that our agency continues providing quality service to Akwesasronon.”
Chief Dulude concluded by congratulating the officers involved in the investigation, “[It was] a job well done by our investigators and the officers involved in the search warrant.”
